Research Information



You have been invited to participate in interviews. Before you decide to participate, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take your time to read the following information carefully, and discuss it with others if you wish. Please ask if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take your time to decide whether or not you wish to continue to participate. 

The purpose of the research is to explore Deaf Identity and British Sign Language Identity and the role of language in the process of identities. The interviews will include question about current and previous involvement with the Deaf community/Hearing Community and attitudes towards the self, deafness and language. 

The interview will last approximately one hour. You will be interviewed through Instant Messaging (IM). All the information will be confidential. The data will be seen only by myself and two supervisors, Dr. David Westley &  Dr Olga van den Akker. All the data you provide will be transcribed and kept anonymous. The research is pending review by The Middlesex Psychology Department’s Ethics Committee.
